About the role
Outpost collects real-world data for AI and robotics. We’re looking for someone resourceful and dependable to help run and grow our India operations.
Your first priority will be keeping our camera and data-collection operations running consistently. We currently have about 12 cameras at partner factories and plan to add more. You’ll coordinate with people at each factory, visit sites when needed, troubleshoot practical problems, and make sure recordings reach our server.
As collection grows, you’ll help recruit and coordinate the India team. Reliable collection comes first; broader hiring and team-management responsibilities will grow with the business.
What you’ll do initially
- Track where cameras are, whether they’re recording, and what needs attention.
- Follow up with factory contacts so cameras are used consistently during agreed recording periods.
- Visit sites to set up equipment, resolve basic issues, and help people follow the recording process.
- Coordinate transfers from cameras or memory cards to laptops, organize recordings, and upload them to our server.
- Verify uploads are complete and usable before clearing or reusing storage.
- Find new factories, partners, or people who can provide the types of data we need.
- Keep simple records of camera activity, uploads, equipment issues, and next steps.
- Follow agreed recording permissions, factory safety requirements, and data-handling procedures.
- Work directly with the founders, flag problems early, and follow through on solutions.
How the role can grow
- Help hire and onboard people for field operations and data labeling.
- Coordinate software recruiting and onboarding with the founders; technical assessment will sit with the technical team.
- Coordinate schedules, responsibilities, and follow-through across the India team.
- Establish practical processes for labeling quality, productivity, and delivery.
- Track operating expenses and help plan staffing and equipment budgets.
- Work with the software team to improve upload tools and reduce manual work.
Who would do well here
- You follow through without needing constant reminders.
- You’re comfortable speaking with factory owners, supervisors, workers, and technical teammates.
- You’re organized with files, spreadsheets, equipment, and day-to-day coordination.
- You’re comfortable using laptops, cameras, memory cards, and online tools, and willing to learn basic troubleshooting.
- You’re willing to travel to collection sites and do hands-on work.
- You can handle changing priorities and communicate problems early.
- You can communicate in English, Telugu, Hindi, and Tamil. Additional Indian languages are welcome.
Experience in field operations, manufacturing, logistics, recruiting, or coordinating a small team would be useful. Software development experience is a plus, but is not required for the initial role.
Working arrangements
This role is based in Hyderabad and combines regular coordination with factory contacts and site visits when needed.
We’re open to discussing full-time or contract arrangements. Expected availability, alignment with factory schedules, travel frequency—including any overnight visits—compensation, equipment provision, and travel and mobile-data reimbursement will be discussed during the interview process and agreed before you start.
What success looks like
Our cameras record consistently, useful data gets uploaded reliably, problems get resolved promptly, and new collection sites become easier to launch.
Over time, you help build a team that can run these operations without the founders coordinating every detail.
